When drilling with a continuous flight auger, the concrete outlet at the start is closed by a lost cover/CFA Auger cap made of plastic, or plastic with a steel plate, depending on ground conditions. This prevents water and soil from entering the stem of the auger and clogging it or influencing the quality of the concrete. The CFA cap is designed so that it is pushed off the auger by low concrete pressure at the start of the concreting process.
